Sunrise from Blue Thunder

Sunrise from Blue Thunder, a poetry anthology from Pirene's Fountain, edited by Amy Kaye, is now available for purchase. Proceeds go to earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan. My poem "How to Create a Japanese Garden" is included in this themed anthology, along with the work of many other poets, including Jane Hirshfield, Dorianne Laux, Maureen Alsop, and Yoko Danno.

This looks great, Jessica. Are the poems set in Japan, about the earthquake/tsunami? I'm curious...

Sorry... I only needed to read further to get my answer. Feel free to delete these comments. : )

Hi Mari, sorry so slow to reply...big work deadline, kids home from school, headcold, and New Year's prep....

The call for submissions indicated the poems should deal with the tsunami and/or earthquake and/or radiation and/or reaction to them, and when I got the proofs to check, I received a chunk of about 40 pages, so I read them all, and all but mine seemed directly related to the event. I had nothing on the terrible tragedy(it takes me awhile to process before I can write about something, like 7 years or so) but I had a poem about Japanese gardens, so I sent it, figuring if it didn't work for them, nothing lost. But they did accept it. So yes, most of the poems are about earthquake/tsunami and aftermath.

Thanks for clarifying, Jessica (and I hope your cold makes its exit soon...). I empathize with your needing psychic distance from a major event before you can write about it. It seems there are those who are able to write out of urgency and immediacy, whereas the rest of us need time to digest and metabolize before we can make art of our experiences/perceptions. I'm going to look for this anthology. Congratulations on being included!
