Two bits of self-promotion.

1) Donna Vorreyer, at Put Words Together. Make Meaning., has included me in her charming series in which she gives poets fill-in-the-blank sentences to complete (a la Mad Libs). Donna's questions are quirkier (and hence more revealing) than other interviews you'll read. Check out her entire series, in which each poet gets a different set of unusual sentences to complete.

2) Joshua Hjalmer Lind, editor of Hartskill Review, reviewed Mendeleev's Mandala for the Fall 2015 issue. He called me (via my work) "as playful and devastating as John Donne."

Wow. Just wow. I never expected that comparison, one I'm not worthy of . Wow.

Publication Opps

Two great publication opportunities:

1) 2015 PATRICIA DOBLER POETRY AWARD. For women writers over 40 who have not published a full-length book of poetry, fiction, or non-fiction (chapbooks excluded). Primary judge: Jan Beatty; final judge: Lynn Emanuel. One prize of $1000; publication in Voices from the Attic; round-trip travel, lodging, a reading at Carlow University with the final judge. 2) Threwline Books, affiliated with the Hartskill Review and editor Joshua Hjalmer Lind, has this call out for book-length poetry manuscripts:

Please submit a manuscript in one file with between 55-90 pages. ThrewLine favors poetry that is complex and innovative enough to be interesting…but just grounded enough not to be off-puttingly experimental. Imagine Emily Dickinson wrote a letter to Wallace Stevens and, although parts of it were lost or illegible, he carefully explained thirteen ways of understanding what it meant to him.

Selections will be made by Joshua Hjalmer Lind, editor of Hartskill Review.

My Heart at Hartskill

I'm pleased to have three new poems in the Spring 2015 issue of the Hartskill Review, along with Kelly Cherry, Ruth Foley, Sandra Kohler, Corey Mesler, Derek Pollard, Brian Simoneau, and more.

And I'm especially grateful to the enthusiastic support of editor Joshua Hjalmer Lind--here's an editor who LOVES  and is excited by poetry. None of that jaded attitude here. Yay!
