This week was artist Agnes Martin's Birthday. She would have been 101 years old. Celebrate over at Maria Popova's Brain Pickings with quotes and an interview with Martin.
On a side note, I've been trying to get a copy of Martin's Writings, but it's priced at $75 used and $150 and up new....I found it on Scribd, but am not sure how I feel about the ethics of downloading form Scribd. If anybody has an opinion on that they want to share, please do....

Don't know much about Scribd but just tweeted the question to see what advice pops up!
Thanks, I'm curious to know what writers (people who have much to lose from Scribd as far as I can tell) think.
What wonderful quotes by AM. I'm a fan, too. Have you seen this documentary featuring extensive interviews with her? It's worth checking out: http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/307420/Agnes-Martin-With-My-Back-to-the-World/overview
Hope you're well. It's spring in Pasadena.
Hi Mari,
I don't know that documentary, but I'm going to watch it tomorrow during one of my study breaks. Thank you!
Not quite spring here yet. Cherry blossoms just barely beginning to open, and cold cold cold.
xoxo
Weird about the cherry blossoms. They seem to have already peaked in Tokyo, which is farther north. Makes me wonder if this "strangeness" has something to do with the nuclear fallout.
I can't remember if I've already told you, but I'll be in Japan for a couple of weeks in April. Sadly, I won't be able to travel to Kobe this trip.
Enjoy the Martin documentary. One of my hits from watching it a couple of years ago is she had an emotionally deprived childhood. No wonder she became an artist.
It is weird about the cherry blossoms. On Sunday my husband wanted to go look at them and I said I had noticed they were just opening barely, and he said they were open south of us in Kyuushuu and north of us in Tokyo, so they must be open here too. Okay, I said, and off we went to look, and they were hardly open. Today expected to jump 5 degrees to 19 degrees so I'll bet they do open.
You did tell me you were going to Tokyo. Yay for you! We'll have to catch up some other time. I'm going to Orange County in August....maybe then.
Orange County in August! It'll be nice and baking here in the SGV, but let's try to meet, in any case. Send me an email when you know your schedule. Take care.
I'll let you know as things get planned!
