The Rejection Jar
So my post on rejection apparently hit quite a nerve, judging from the number of hits to my website immediately following its posting. Naturally rejection is quite a popular topic, an obsession really, among the writerly type. Recently I read Michael Kardos's strategy for coping with the big "Not today, dear" by creating "a rejection jar." Check out his post at the Missouri Review's blog for more details. You might as well; those rejections just keep on coming, and having a way of coping is a healthy thing.

I recently stumbled onto one online journal's editorial notes. It cracks me up to read all of the little comments in the margins and look to see if I recognize some of the submission poets.
I have been deciding if I should post it on my blog. Maybe even redact all of the names and just leave the comments.
Shawnte, I for one would be interested in seeing something like this. Like you, I would be hesitant to reveal too much personal information though. On the other hand, how useful are the comments without the poem they refer to? Interesting conundrum.
The comments are brief and vague, so I think they are probably more interesting without the poems they are referring to. Leaves the imagination wondering.
I've decided that I will treat it like a government document that had been reluctantly released through the freedom of information act. I will do some serious redacting, before posting the excerpts.
